The Hiking section was founded in Spring 2005, when a group of people from Panteres Grogues decided to organize walking trips to the mountains. We do high mountain treks as well as medium difficulty hikes, and easy walks which are open to all.

The hiking section is dependent on the contributions of all the members. We meet 3 times a year (Christmas, Easter and Summer) in order to program the season.

The difficulty of the outing is stated at the outset. We ask people to take special note when the organizers insist on a certain level of fitness for the walk. Nevertheless we have three golden rules:

  • We always wait for everyone.
  • The route of the guide must be followed, out of respect for the person who took the trouble to prepare the route, and in order to avoid people getting lost. Alternative routes are not accepted. We leave as a group and we return as a group.
  • The guide sets the pace and decides on the break and when and where we stop to eat. Both the faster walkers and the slower ones have to make an effort to adapt to the speed of the group.

Operating Rules

The organization of each outing is the responsibility of the person who has volunteered to organize it: routes, reservations in mountain huts and restaurants, transport, registration etc. To make up for his or her work the organizer is not obliged to pay for the outing and can spread the cost between all those in the group (up to a maximum of 100 euros. Shortly before each outing the organizer sends an email with the description of the route and instructions for signing up.

Day walks are, in principle, free and open to all. For outings of more than one day one has to become a member of Panteres Grogues, although this is not essential at the beginning. Members have precedence when places are limited and non-member must wait for places to be confirmed as well as pay an additional 10 euros. Registration is confirmed by paying the fee for the outing into the bank account indicated. The order of registration is the order in which the fees are received into the bank account.

The organizer can choose between using the Hiking Section current account or his or her own.

Members volunteering to drive their cars do not pay for fuel and the cost is divided up between the passengers. The cost of fuel and tolls will be calculated before the outing, using www.michelin.es for example. Payment in advance for one day outings by car may be requested, and this will not be refunded to those who do not turn up on the day.

Cancellations: Last-minute cancellations are a problem for the organizer, as mountain hut reservations have to be made and these are non-refundable as a rule. When a payment has been made for an outing, anyone who cancels a week or less in advance will lose 10 euros per outing/day if a substitute is found, but will not be refunded is no substitute is found and the hut reservation has to be paid for. If a cancellation is made in the last 24 hours, the payment is not refunded.
